Obituary for Nancy Poffenberger (Maescher)
Nancy nee Maescher passed away November 25, 2014 at age 76. She is survived by her husband John, sons Dwight and Bill Poffenberger of Cincinnati Ohio, daughter Molly Midgly of Wolverine Lake Michigan, and Andrew Herron for whom she was a legal guardian after both his parents passed away while still a young teenager. She is also survived by her sister Jean Middlekauff of Cincinnati, as well as seven grandchildren and two guardianship grandchildren.
Nancy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, attended Seven Hills School before graduating from Mariemont High School and Northwestern University. After graduating from Northwestern University she moved to Palo Alto California, where she taught grade school before returning to Cincinnati where she briefly taught at Roselawn grade school and Daugherty School.
While maintaining her first priorities as wife and mother she continued her educational teaching pursuits by writing several self-teaching children music books for national publishing companies before starting her own publishing company, Fun Publishing Company. She maintained and operated her publishing company as a sole proprietorship for approximately forty years. In addition to her many music books, she also wrote and published children books explaining 9/11 and the war in Iraq.
When she wasn’t busy with her wife, mother, grandmother and teaching activities, Nancy found time for golf and bridge with her many friends in Cincinnati and Naples Florida. She also enjoyed sharing fishing with her husband as they pursued that hobby around the world.
Nancy served on the Cincinnati Epilepsy Board, the Ohio State Epilepsy Board, and the Jr. League of Cincinnati Board. She was a member of the Cincinnati Country Club and the Wilderness County Club of Naples Florida as well as the Naples Florida Press Club.
